I didn’t think it would be that bad, but it is: With the internet being so expensive around here, I honestly feel deprived of the right to take part in the worldwide web of communication. I can’t visit my favorite photo blogs because it would be too much traffic, I can’t watch the latest videos on youtube or facebook, and Twitter without a software like Tweetdeck is not really useful, but again: Too much traffic. But I can’t pay 30 dollars a week just for that! So you start saving, and find yourself totally outside the blogosphere, unvoluntarily, but lonely and disconnected, to the web and to the world. At least if someone could explain to me why?? Why is internet in Australia way more expensive than for example, anywhere else in Europe? Or Asia? Why is there no possibility to get unlimited access to the internet, why is the data volume or the time always restricted? And why can’t I get a contract when I’m not employed?? That’s another thing totally beyond my imagination. The internet would then be at least only expensive instead of ridiculously expensive.

Anyway. Funny little thought at the end of this post: At the next carnival or masquerade party, I will dress up with a friend as two bees and we go as beesexuals. Heehee.

Two weeks ago I arrived in Australia. It took me some days to get accustomed with everything, the public transport system, food, weather, flora & fauna, the Uni, the enrolment (still really didn’t get that part, sooo complicated), the goon, bottle shops, different bed sizes (single, double, queen, king!), K-mart and Coles. After another week, I found a new home, it is awesome, as are the people living with me. Tomorrow, I get my new bed (IKEA really is the same everywhere), and it’s the first day of the International Orientation Week at the Uni. I went surfing and I would like to buy a second-hand surfboard, I would like to join the student guild, the gym and maybe one or two clubs at the Uni (there’s a bushwalking club that does all kinds of outdoor sports, so that seems to be just right for me!).

The beach and the sea here are more beautiful than they could possibly be at any other place.

The sun has been shining for three days non-stop, 33 degrees, probably around 70-80% humidity. Tons of mozzies (moskitos). I’m dying my hair right now, bright red again, see if that makes any sense with the heat, the sun and the sea.

Internet is still soo expensive, because if you’re not working, you can’t sign a contract for (relatively) cheap internet, so you have to take the way more expensive prepaid one.

That’s pretty much a very short summary of my physical and emotional life in the first 14 days. I’ll try to make some pictures next week, and hopefully find a place where I can upload them without using all my prepaid internet. Please, someone invent flatrates on internet traffic in Australia.

No worries, mates!

Finally! Found a really really great place to live, with two really really nice and awesome housemates! But before I say more, let me promote my latest pictures. There are some graffitis at a small biketrail on the way to the uni, then there are some pictures of the best hostel I’ve been (ever!), and last but not least some from the beach at Surfers Paradise. Just click on the picture to be referred to the photostream on flickr. Tomorrow I have my first surf lesson!! More coming soon!

And today I’ve seen how the Australian Post delivers its mail. A tattoed girl on a motorbike with two bags on each side of the bike, driving like hell, the letters almost falling out. But it was pretty cool.
